Ingredients You’ll Need

The simple and fresh ingredients you need to make this strawberry-kiwi smoothie include:

  • Strawberry. It’s best to use frozen strawberries for the texture. You can buy already frozen at the store or freeze fresh strawberries. Sweet strawberries will require less sugar in this healthy smoothie recipe. This recipe is perfect if you have leftover strawberries during the season.
  • Kiwi. A ripe kiwi is ideal, it will give it more sweetness. Unripe kiwis tend to be tart. Make sure to use room-temperature fresh kiwi fruit so the ingredients can blend together more easily. (And if you don’t already know, you can learn how to cut a kiwi in three simple ways!)
  • Milk. Any milk can be used, but a higher-fat milk will taste the best. Regular milk, oat, soy, or another nut-based milk such as cashew or almond milk are all great options. If needed, sub in apple juice or orange juice.
  • Yogurt. Plain, unsweetened yogurt is the best option. Regular, goat’s milk, Greek yogurt, or other nut or plant-based yogurt will all work. Plain yogurt without flavor reduces the amount of sugar.
  • Sweetener. This is optional and will depend on your other ingredients and personal taste. Make the smoothie first and then add it in if you would like more sweetness. Honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar will work.

Tip for Super Smooth Smoothies

Use a combination of fresh and frozen fruits to make blending the smoothie together so much easier! You can also thaw previously frozen fruit for 15-30 minutes in order to make it softer and easier to blend.

How to Make a Strawberry Kiwi Smoothie

Below, you’ll find the easy steps to take when making this kiwi strawberry smoothie:

1. Combine Ingredients in Blender

You can use either a small individual-sized blender, or a large high-speed blender to make smoothies.

Nutribullet or Ninjas are popular personal-sized blenders and feature the blade on the TOP instead of the bottom. On the other hand, a traditional blender or high speed blender, like a Vitamix, has the blade on the BOTTOM.

No matter which blender you use, make sure to follow the instructions for loading the ingredients in relation to the blade: place the softer ingredients closer to the blade and the frozen ingredients further from the blade. This ensures everything will blend properly.

Tip for Blending Smoothies

In order to more easily blend frozen ingredients for a smoothie, you’ll want to place the softer ingredients closer to the blade and the frozen ingredients further away from the blade.

All of the ingredients are added to the vitamix blender.

2. Blend Until Smooth and Creamy

Blend for 1-2 minutes. Keep an eye on the texture and blend until you reach the perfect smooth and creamy consistency. You may need to scrape down the sides of the container to ensure everything is well mixed. Add additional sweetener, to taste, and re-blend if needed.

Serve with fresh diced strawberries, kiwis, and a straw.

Up the Nutrition with these Add-Ins

This is a basic recipe for you to work with. Up the nutritional value by adding in any of these healthy smoothie ingredients:

  • Protein powder
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Peanut butter
  • Leafy greens
  • Fish or flax seed oil
  • Gluten-free oats
  • Turmeric powder
  • Avocado
  • Other fresh or frozen fruits
  • Chia seeds
  • Hemp seeds

Meal Prepping a Smoothie

Prepare this smoothie in advance to make mornings even easier! Measure out the frozen fruit and yogurt and place them in a freezer-safe bag. Store the bags for up to 3-4 months in freezer. Let it sit out at room for 30 minutes so the ingredients can thaw, add your liquid of choice (milk in this case!) then blend and serve.
